Author Jack C. Wray thinks that so much has been written about the Civil War which, for him is not correct and is being positioned in public school education, Hollywood and higher education in colleges and universities misrepresenting the Southern Cause. He also believes that tourism in Savannah is skewed with stories that are not true. It is Wray's passion to present history accurately and supported with quotes 'in their own words' of key players in history. This passion led him in writing "Who Really Saved Savannah?: The Surprising Paradox " (published by Trafford Publishing).

Wray claims that beginning on December 10, 1864, with 62,000 Union troops arriving on the west side of Savannah and another 42,000 across the river in Carolina, Savannah was outnumbered by about 6.5-1. Even though the city was protected by 10,000 Confederate troops, they are still outnumbered over 14-1. A harrowing escape from being burned by the Union was the result of a paradoxical incident involving a most unlikely person. This story unfolds in providential grace like a string of dominos lined up and falling one by one in the city's favor. The surprising paradox unfolds at the end of the book in answer to the question as to who really saved Savannah.

"This book is filled with passion, pain, paradox and providence over a long, 53 day ordeal," Wray points out. "It is factual, documented and passionate. Any student of history seeking the truth will find this book rewarding."

A refreshing account of one city's bare, onionskin thin, narrow escape from disaster, "Who Really Saved Savannah?" shows to readers how military strategies and decisions came together and played out under the guiding arm of God's providential grace.
