NEW YORK

Author Jabreel Morgan captures the rhythm and feel of life in the city, offering an honest look at inner city life through poetry, in his new collection, "And the Beat Don't Stop" (published by iUniverse).

Growing up in Cleveland, Ohio, Morgan witnessed inner city crime and violence firsthand. His experiences empowered him to reach out to others still living in crime-ridden areas and encourage them to transform their lives. Through poetry, he exposes the damaging effects of crime on neighborhoods and people.

"I feel that my words are God-given," Morgan says. "Spoken word has a deep tradition as knowledge passed down generation to generation."

Expressive and thought-provoking, Morgan's poems challenge readers to work hard to create a better tomorrow. He hopes readers will find encouragement, hope and motivation within his poems.

An excerpt from the poem "It's Time for All Men," featured in "And the Beat Don't Stop":

"It's time for all men to transcend back into being Gods again
Forgive us for our sins, color of our skin
With the passion of love all hurts and hearts can mend
If we believe in love then we can cleanse"
