BRUNSWICK, Maine

Author and veteran J. Morris Lavallee was hospitalized at a Veterans Affairs (VA) hospital in 1992 for an anxiety disorder. In the process of being diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), Lavallee was instructed by one of the facilitators to keep a daily journal. He began writing in his daily journal, not realizing it would become a manuscript 18 years later.

Lavallee invites readers to experience his new novel "Cracks in the Wall" (published by AuthorHouse), which draws inspiration from his battles with PTSD and follows the life of a soldier struggling to find peace.

Peter Davies, a Vietnam veteran, overstays his welcome at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial after acting suspicious and drawing unwanted attention to himself. As the police escort him into the back of a police car, he has a violent outburst, which lands him in a VA hospital in D.C.

Peter awakes three days later with no recollection of what he did. The police then give him a choice - serve jail time and pay for the damage he caused to the police vehicles, or remain at the VA hospital for further observation. He chooses the latter, but struggles with sharing his secrets with his doctor, Prescott Brown.

Throughout "Cracks in the Wall," readers will watch as Peter shares his life story with Prescott and embarks on a journey to clarity - a journey that will change both of their lives forever.

"The story will appeal to anyone who suffers from PTSD, because it offers the hope that the condition is treatable," Lavallee says. "With all the young veterans who are returning home, the story tries to let them know they are not alone."
