WHITE PLAINS, N.Y.

Some time ago, author Shirley Jordan Roberts was given the opportunity to speak at a Sunday morning Mother's Day service. Her talk was titled "Facilitating the Purposes of God for our Children." What she shared with the congregation reflected her personal experience as a parent raising her children to understand God's promises and purposes for their lives.

Roberts now promotes this same approach in her new parenting book, "He Calls them Blessed: Gifts, Talents, and Abilities - Purpose and Design" (published by WestBow Press), which she hopes will help other parents foster the God-given talents of their own children.

Touching on such topics as birth, the dynamics of child-rearing, biblical parental profiles, society's changing values and challenges facing working parents, Roberts' new book acts as a helping hand for any parent who wishes to help his or her child realize his or her special gifts. Each chapter's end features a crossword puzzle for entertainment and learning on the part of adult and juvenile readers alike.

"I want readers to take away a better understanding of the gifts, talents and abilities their children possess," Roberts says. "I think this book will appeal to Christian parents who continue to look and gain instructions for rearing their children."
