Glenn S. Guiles Announces A HUG FOR HARRIET

The first time author Glenn S. Guiles met a miniature donkey, he was captivated by their gentleness, affection and curiosity. As a person approaches their paddock, they immediately come over for attention, asking one to scratch their ears, pat their sides and give them a hug. His fascination with these gentle animals inspired him to create a vibrant picture book that tells a story of a miniature donkey named Harriet who seeks for love and affection. A Hug for Harriet will surely capture the readers' hearts and teach children a lesson or two.

Harriet is the youngest and smallest miniature donkey in a large herd. When the farmer comes to feed the donkeys, she sees him scratch their ears, pat their sides and give them hugs but only the older, larger donkeys can get to the front. By the time Harriet gets to the food, the people are gone. That makes her extremely sad. Not long after, Harriet and her friends Sally and Nacho moved to a new farm. With only three of them, can Harriet finally get close to the owner, Mr. Michael, and get the hug she has always wanted?

Everyone finds a time in their life where little reassurance and affection makes everything better and that along with an animal story, is something that everyone can enjoy. It is especially written for children from 3-8 years old. It is also carefully edited to work for younger children to have the story read to them, and older children to be able to read the story by themselves.

With its vibrant illustrations by local artist Ray Whalen and its heartwarming tale, A Hug for Harriet does not only entertain and put a smile in one's face, it imparts an important realization as well - that receiving hugs give a wonderful feeling.

About The Author
Glenn S. Guiles is Professor and Associate Dean Emeritus and former Director of Music Admissions at the State University of New York at Potsdam. He has taught music in the public schools and at the college level in New York, Pennsylvania, Nebraska, Missouri and Virginia. He studied at Ithaca College, Yale University and SUNY Stony Brook. He currently lives on a hobby farm in the Adirondack Park area of Northern New York State.

About the Illustrator
Raymond J. Whalen was born in Potsdam, NY and now resides in South Colton, NY on a lake in the Adirondack State Park. He received his BFA from SUNY Oswego and MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art. He is currently an art educator at Parishville-Hopkinton School District as well as an active painter and potter.
