Taking a detour from the standard well-traveled path in Northern California's wine country, the authors that endearingly refer to themselves as "BuzzzzOff" documented their culinary-focused west coast travels in a new book, 'Gastronaughties' Gallivant - Sipping'n Snacking California Coast and Las Vegas.' The book details many aspects of a well-planned journey that was born of their passion to seek and enjoy great wine, culinary delights and new experiences along the way.

Starting in San Francisco and continuing south to Big Sur, Paso Robles and Santa Barbara before turning north east toward Vegas, 'Gastronaughties' Gallivant' offers factual information about hotels, locations, transport, dining and wineries, while also weaving an entertaining personal perspective throughout the book. The conversational, casual tone is laced with humor and subjective observational details that contribute to the easy flow and cadence of the travel journal format.

As the title suggests, the authors were on a mission to sip and sample good wine, and find great food. Of course this requires some trial and error despite solid planning and extensive research, and there are opinions, every step of the way (with a section of the book devoted entirely to reviews of the restaurants they visited), about what was being eaten and imbibed. Even as they dined at the eateries of world-renowned and celebrity chefs (think Restaurant Gary Danko, Emeril's, Spago, Michael Mina, and Todd English's Olives, among others), and visited tasting rooms at established wineries, the authors heralded the places they liked and loved, and were honest and constructively critical about what didn't make the cut.

Colorful descriptions of their adventures, a palpable enthusiasm for finding delicious wine and the authors' roll-with-the-punches attitudes define this informative book. This is more than simply a guide of where and what to eat while traveling-it is a playful and personal narrative about a couple's passion for dining. "We do not visit restaurants to eat and drink," explain the authors. "We visit restaurants for the entire dining experience as though we are attending a Broadway musical."

The authors share many of their photos (food, wine labels, sunsets, hotel accommodations, and sculpted vineyard hillsides), and informative sidebars offer practical travel tips, historical and educational details, and their own flavor of inspirational and motivational blurbs and commentary that make this travel food guide unique.

"We offer useful information in a light-hearted manner, focusing on the sipping'n snacking experience from a couple who enjoys doing it together," say the authors. "Love, passion and enthusiasm underlie this endeavor, and we have other books in process-a lot more adventures to come!"

About the Authors
We met in 1991 when we were both young, a touch crazy and always seeking something to make us smile. We have been non- stop, working, playing, sipping and snacking with each other ever since.

We started our serious sipping adventure in 1997 with a reasonably well-aged bottle of St. Julien that cost us a bit more-a lot more-than any wine we ever had tried. We continued learning from friends, who grew up with families keen on sipping The Noble Grape...unlike our families.

We started attending wine tastings any and every time we were invited. We planned holidays based on visits to wineries and restaurants, and befriended and learned from some of the most experienced and globally recognized sommeliers and chefs at, not surprisingly, many of the world's most exceptional restaurants.

Et voila, we flourished...and will continue so to do. We are citizens of the World! We love our dog. We love each other.
