In "The Los Cruces Trail" (published by Trafford Publishing), the new historical fiction novel by Frank Mann, a group of crime bosses face the end of their time in power when a group of men arrive in Panama to bring justice and safety back to the people.

During the California Gold Rush, the Los Cruces Trail was created to give people a safe place to transport goods from one ocean to the other through Panama. Mann takes readers into this world at a time when people were actively attempting to clean up Central America and make Panama a safer place.

An excerpt from "The Los Cruces Trail":

"They had two rooms upstairs and a ground floor room with two windows each. Six windows over looking the gold, And a man at every window with a shotgun, rifle and hand gun, and plenty of ammunition. They searched the hotel from top to bottom, to make sure no outlaws were hiding in the hotel. And desk clerk, if the outlaws are holding anybody hostage, you had better tell us now, or you and the hostage will die."

Mann focuses on the mind games, or the psychological battles, between the bandit bosses of the region in addition to the men who are trying to put an end to their reign. "My books aren't slow moving," he says. "They're the opposite. They give the bandits - as well as the readers - credit for having brains. I try to make my books what it used to be like, not what it will be in the future."
