FINDING EMMA is Released

"One thing that has always bothered about the history of the west has been the question of why the white and native cultures never understood each other," said author Edmund J. Metz.

Metz wrote "Finding Emma" (published by Xlibris) as a way of exploring this lack of understanding. In it, he weaves a tale of how true love can overcome tremendous obstacles through the story of two young people travelling west to start a new life in Santa Fe. The travails along their journey show how the clash of cultures, the white and Native Plains Indian culture, impacted their lives and changed them.

An excerpt from the book reads:
"I now realize what I need to do. This is my burden now-to go find Emma and the others who the Indians have taken." Bob was not a hero, nor was he an experienced western man who knew anything about Indians. Yet, he knew this was a major turning point in his life. There are times in our lives, when we need to reach deep within ourselves and go off on new paths we know nothing about, and which carry risk.

Based on actual people who lived during this time, "Finding Emma" creatively interweaves its rich fictional narrative with actual historical events. It shows how emotionally difficult life really was for some of the early western emigrants and those who went West to start new lives and settle the land, and how love helps to endure and eventually succeed.

About the Author
Edmund Metz is a retired corporate executive who has also taught at such universities as DePaul, Loyola and National Louis and has been an avid student for over forty years of Western American history and Native cultures from the period of Lewis and Clark until the close of the Indian wars at Wounded Knee. He is also a Western artist who has traveled extensively across the American West and on many of its famous historic trails and has spent time in all the places that serve as the backdrop to this story.
