In the new book "Turning Sewage into Reusable Water: Written for the Layperson" (published by Archway Publishing), two professional engineers explain how sewage is safely turned into reusable water and why the process is necessary to conserve Earth's most abundant natural resource. Authors Madan Arora and Joe Reichenberger write for the layperson, introducing the concepts of wastewater treatment and recycling in easy-to-understand language. They hope their book will prove useful to not only laypersons, but also students, parents, school counselors, advisers, council members and board members of water and sanitation agencies.

"Turning Sewage into Reusable Water" features more than just an overview of wastewater treatment and reuse. The authors include information about wastewater systems; wastewater characteristics and flow; the past, present and future of sewage treatment; and the costs of maintaining and operating a wastewater treatment facility, among other in-depth topics.

About the Authors
Dr. Madan Arora is a technical director at Parsons - a global engineering and construction company with its corporate offices in Pasadena, California. He is a registered civil engineer and life member of the Water Environment Federation (WEF) and the American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists (AAEE&S). He has more than 50 years of experience in water and wastewater treatment and water recycling, with projects across the United States and internationally. Arora has published technical articles in various prestigious journals. He has also spoken at national and international conferences on wastewater treatment, recycling and reuse.

Joe Reichenberger, a professor of civil engineering and environmental science at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, is a registered civil engineer with more than 50 years of experience in water, wastewater treatment and water recycling facilities. He has served as director of the San Gabriel Valley Municipal Water District, is a life member of WEF, AAEE&S, the American Society of Civil Engineers and the American Water Works Association, and has authored numerous sections in water and wastewater design manuals.
