SWARTZ CREEK, Mich.

When author Ellen Harbin received a cancer diagnosis just as she was about to adopt two children, a crisis erupted in her family.

Her new book "CRISIS: Mine's Cancer, What's Yours?: Falling to Pieces in a Crisis Was Not an Option for Me" (published by WestBow Press) chronicles her dramatic story and illustrates how God's guiding hand got her through this trying time.

By praying and reading the Bible, Harbin found the strength to carry on. The proverb, "If you fall to pieces in a crisis there wasn't much to you in the first place," became her motto, and she learned to focus on what was happening in her as well as around her.

Harbin draws comparisons from other biblical stories to further illustrate how resilient humans can be in times of strife. Through her book, she reminds readers they have options when a crisis happens in their lives. Harbin hopes they will find comfort and strength within her book's pages.

"There are a number of different voices attempting to help people face crisis today," Harbin writes. "This book clearly, plainly and straightforwardly points to purposeful insights the reader can apply in the midst of any crisis."
