VICTORIA, BC

More than 50 million women of a certain age in Canada and the United States are likely in some stage of menopause - whether they realize it or simply think they are becoming lunatics.

In her new book Menopause or Lunacy ... That is the Question, Donna Faye Randall offers this group insight and humor about all stages of menopause. As a woman of a certain age herself, who has acted as caregiver for both her mother and her mother-in-law, she wants other women to realize they are not alone in the mania produced by the hormone-driven change.

"The majority of caregivers of the elderly are menopausal women who find it especially difficult to be patient and understanding, particularly if they are not aware of their menopausal status and truly think they are suffering from lunacy," Randall said.

The author has long been a voice in the field of sexual health, from her work as Executive Director of Planned Parenthood Ontario and Waterloo region to her consultations with government and nonprofit health organizations. In addition, Randall has experienced the symptoms of menopause, mostly notably dry eye syndrome, which has rendered her vision impaired.

"It made sense for me to share so much of my experience in Menopause or Lunacy because as an educator I am accustomed to speaking openly about my sexuality and talking freely about both sexuality and aging from humorous and serious perspectives," Randall said.
