CHARLOTTE, N.C.

At a young age, author Dexter G. Thompson witnessed firsthand the personal battle his mother has courageously fought against cancer. He shared the pain that she went through, which, instead of being released, was locked away in his personal realm, only to haunt him again in his latter life. In writing the extraordinary bravery of his mother and his troubled, delicate childhood, Thompson found the therapy he needs, and this he aims to share to those people whose fate was similarly corrupted by this devastating illness.

"In Remembrance of Feelings" (published by Xlibris) is a part memoir, part self-help nonfiction, recounting the significant events of Thompson's childhood. The author tells how a young boy at a tender age took the pain of not being able to do anything to ease the constant misery of a mother. Together, they shared moments of laughter and happiness, concealing the bitter reality that these episodes are as precious as their time. He notes his personal bout with depression afterwards, the debilitating despair that came with her death and the emotions that threatened to turn his life around - for worse.

Nonetheless, the author believes, regaining oneself is always the option one must head to, which he took with much effort. While it is easier to fall into despair and throw one's life to waste after all sense are washed away by a single blow of loss, man's true test of character is in reclaiming his spirit - and living on - for the sake of those who have gone but fought hard to hold on. With this, he shares his personal knowledge on self-expression, getting help and sustaining faith for a renewed life.

"Don't let cancer aftermath destroy you, nor let depression and loneliness win," Thompson says. "Focus on repairing yourself by keeping your love one in mind and knowing that the love one you lost would want you to not give in to cancer's destructive ways. If you give in to cancer aftermath, then depression wins along with their other friends."
