WATKINSVILLE, Ga.

Complex variables can be a daunting subject for any college student. Mathematics lecturer-turned-author David C. Kay provides a simplified overview of complex variables in his new mathematics tutorial "A Basic Course in Complex Variables" (published by iUniverse).

The main focus of Kay's new book is to take the main concepts of calculus for real variables and apply them to complex variables. Met with numerous carefully crafted examples, the content of "A Basic Course in Complex Variables" conveys the pertinent details of this complicated topic, resulting in powerful methods for solving complex mathematical problems.

"Like any other textbook in mathematics, its purpose is to educate in a particular area," Kay says of his book. "It is written for the average undergraduate math or science major with a working knowledge of calculus."

Kay hopes his new book prepares students for advanced courses in mathematics, including real analysis and topology.
