Author D.R. Lon has read to his son every night since he was born. So, when Lon wanted to write his own book, he turned to his son for input. His new fantasy novel, "The Wither" (published by Lulu), is the story of a group of 8-year-olds on an incredible adventure.

Four 8-year-old children discover they have special powers, but these same incredible abilities put their families in danger. These children soon find themselves in a situation where they have battle a creature from another world to save the Earth. Now, they must decide if they are going to save the planet or their families.

"The theme of 'The Wither' is finding the inner strength to accomplish goals," Lon says. "A lesser theme is finding the strength to trust in others to help solve problems."

"The Wither" is written for readers both young and old. Lon hopes readers of any age will enjoy the adventure of the story and feel that they could be a part of the team. He wants readers to be drawn into the wonder and awe of his book.

An excerpt from "The Wither":

"Orion Keys was confused. He was also on his back after being knocked down by what appeared to be a living rock monster. He was breathing hard and could taste blood in his mouth from where he had bitten his tongue. He was trying hard not to cry."
