Christine F. Tomalin Discusses AN EVEN EXCHANGE

In her new novel "An Even Exchange" (published by iUniverse) author Christine F. Tomalin has created a modern, Hardy-esque novel of international relationships and conflicting values.

More than an educational experience is exchanged when Berengaria Barnes, a young, ambitious and independent woman, is selected to study abroad her senior year. All the while, Colin Chapman, a conservative young man planning to have a typical British family and career, learns that life paths can take unexpected turns.

"An Even Exchange" is both topical and experimental. Tomalin touches on many of the important issues of the modern age: the challenges of long distance relationships, the failure to communicate and the lingering effects of the 1970s women's liberation movement. That she does so in an unconventional format, showcasing both the male and female perspective of events, only adds to the book's appeal.

"This story is being told from both the male and female perspective simultaneously," Tomalin explains. "The reader can actually read just the male version of the story and then go back and read the female version of the novel OR read it in the traditional format."
