BOSTON

For many family units, holidays, birthdays and even weekends can be a time of change, especially when it comes to introducing new, blended family members and embracing a new dynamic.

When families combine, children often have confusion on how to handle the differences between them and their new family members. In her new book, "The Perfect Raisin and Pretzel Cousins Club," author Catherine Tobin uses unique characters for children to identify with as they learn how to use cooperation and conflict resolution to embrace each other's differences.

"I feel very strongly that family is not about shared DNA," said Tobin. "It is about shared experiences, memories, and love."

Coming from a large blended family of 70, Tobin has firsthand experience creating cohesive relationships with family members from different backgrounds. Tobin seeks to provide a book that will help children achieve the same love and belonging she has experienced in her own family. "The Perfect Raisin and Pretzel Cousins Club" conveys the importance of individuality and uniqueness, allowing children to learn the importance of acceptance.
