Honey, she's home! TheWrap writes Cate Blanchett will star as Lucille Ball in playwright and screenwriter Aaron Sorkin's upcoming biopic on the I LOVE LUCY star.

The film will follow "Ball's 20-year marriage to Desi Arnaz, with whom she starred on the classic TV sitcom 'I Love Lucy.' Ball had two children with Arnaz before they divorced in 1960" -- Ball married Gary Morton the following year.

Lucie Arnaz Jr. and Desi Arnaz Jr. are producing with Escape Artists' Jenna Block overseeing the film.

Blanchett is no stranger to playing icons on the big screen; her portrayal of Katharine Hepburn in THE AVIATOR earned her an Oscar. Among the actress' upcoming films are CAROL and TRUTH.

Among her notable films are ELIZABETH, BLUE JASMINE, NOTES ON A SCANDAL, I'M NOT THERE, THE LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy, THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON, and Disney's recent, live-action CINDERELLA remake.

She took the stage in Sydney Theatre Company's THE MAIDS at New York City Center last year. The Helpmann Award winner has starred in many theatre productions in Australia (among them HEDDA GABLER, A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE, UNCLE VANYA and more), as well as PLENTY in the West End.

Sorkin also has experience bringing real-life figures to film, having won an Oscar for telling Mark Zuckerberg's story THE SOCIAL NETWORK (starring Jesse Eisenberg), writing CHARLIE WILSON'S WAR (featuring Tom Hanks), and penning the script for MONEY BALL, which centered on Billy Beane (played by Brad Pitt).

Sorkin has also adapted FLASH BOYS and the upcoming MOLLY'S GAME. Among his other works for the big screen are STEVE JOBS, THE NEWSROOM, THE AMERICAN PRESIDENT and A FEW GOOD MEN (based on his own play). He is also well known for writing for the long-running TV drama THE WEST WING. Sorkin has also penned THE FARNSWORTH INVENTION, MAKING MOVIES, HIDDEN IN THIS PICTURE and REMOVING ALL DOUBT for the stage.
