This fall marks the fifth anniversary of young adult imprint Carolrhoda Lab, an imprint of Carolrhoda Books, a division of Lerner Publishing Group. Called "one of the granddaddies of the YA-only field" by Publishers Weekly, Carolrhoda Lab is dedicated to distinctive, provocative, boundary-pushing fiction for teens and their sympathizers.

"The first five years of Carolrhoda Lab have been successful and exciting with 37 starred reviews, a Boston Globe-Horn Book award winner, William C. Morris YA Debut Award finalists and winner, a Coretta Scott King Author Honor book, a Kirkus Prize finalist, a Los Angeles Times Book Prize finalist, and best books of the year accolades from major review journals," said Adam Lerner, CEO and publisher of Lerner Publishing Group. "We're proud of these accomplishments, and we have exciting new books and plans on the horizon with our new editorial director, Alix Reid."

Reid comes to Carolrhoda Lab with more than a decade of editorial experience. "Carolrhoda Lab is dedicated to publishing insightful, literary young adult novels. I'm thrilled to be at the helm of this excellent imprint," she said.

Seven new titles will be released this fall from a diverse list of authors including debut novelists and New York Times bestselling authors:

Acclaimed authors Maggie Stiefvater, Tessa Gratton, and Brenna Yovanoff have each contributed an original novella to The Anatomy of Curiosity, a follow-up to the authors' story collection The Curiosities, and they provide commentary on their process of critique and collaboration.

In Terry Farish's Either the Beginning or the End of the World, Sofie, the daughter of a Scottish-American fisherman and a Cambodian refugee, falls for Luke, an Army medic back from Afghanistan. They both have their secrets, ghosts, wars. Their love is forbidden...but can they find a way?

Bertucci, Olivia, and Codman spend the night before graduation locked inside a condemned movie theater in Emily Franklin's Last Night at the Circle Cinema. Before sunrise, they must face the tragic events of the past year and examine what the future might bring.

Set against the backdrop of one of the worst school tragedies in American history, Ashley Hope Pérez's Out of Darkness is a gripping novel about race, segregation, love, and the forces that destroy people.

Being a biracial girl adopted by a white family didn't used to bother Alex. All that mattered was being her father's baseball star?until that status slips. Now she's questioning her identity. Black or white?where does she fit? Shannon Gibney's debut, See No Color, follows a character who must face the question of what it means to be black.

Rakmen's baby sister died in his arms of a heart defect. Now his family is broken, and he's exiled to a wilderness trip while his parents "figure things out." Amber J. Keyser's The Way Back from Broken is a wrenching story of adversity and hope.

James is obsessed with whales. Darren is struggling to succeed in the movie business. A 52-Hertz Whale, co-authored by Bill Sommer and Natalie Haney Tilghman, is written as a series of emails and explores a rich tapestry of human loneliness. Funny, illuminating, and heartbreaking, this is a debut to watch.
