NEW YORK, Feb. 5, 2015 /PRNewswire/ International best selling crime thriller author Karin Slaughter and her recent stand alone novel Cop Town, has just been released in mass-market paperback and is currently available at book retailers nationwide. Cop Town was recently nominated for an Edgar Allan Poe Award for Best Novel by the Mystery Writers of America and is Slaughter's second nomination she won for Best Short Story Award in 2013.

Released this past summer in hard cover and immediately landing on The New York Times best-seller list, Cop Town is a powerful character driven suspense thriller. The mass-market paperback - currently available at retailers, can be purchased for $9.99. Slaughter uses crime fiction as a method to explore human nature, and it is apparent inthe novel. Slaughter's interviews with the first women in law enforcementthose who paved the way for an integrated police forceand the shocking prejudice they faced every day, brings a captivating truth to a story of murder and intrigue.

Cop Town is set in Atlanta, 1974. Racism, Homophobia, Anti-Semitism and Misogyny abound, not only in the City, but fiercely in the Atlanta Police Force. A new African-American police chief is in charge, and an unprecedented initiative to bring women into the police force has been imposed. It's Kate's first day on the job, fresh out of the police academy, and the reader is right there with her as the male veteran officers grope and stare. Her first day she is partnered with Jimmy, who just the night before escaped the wrath of the serial killer targeting cops. But Jimmy is not unscathed. His partner was murdered, execution style right in front of him. And Jimmy is hiding a secret.

After only half a day with Jimmy, Kate is patrolling the streets of Atlanta. He introduces the privileged, sheltered Kate to the projects, and ghettos. She then is "handed-over" to Maggie, Jimmy's sister, one of the newly recruited females on the job 5 years in. With Kate being "seasoned" by Maggie, the two begin to work together to help the precinct track down the serial cop killer, an unofficial priority of the Force.

Cop Town is published in the United States by Penguin Random House Delacorte Press.
