LONDON

According to the World Wildlife Fund, the wild tiger population has dropped 97 percent over the last 100 years, with poaching causing the greatest threat to wild tigers today. Author Nirvasha Jithoo is raising awareness for tiger poaching and protecting endangered species with her new children's book "Chiko-The Bengal Tiger" (published by AuthorHouse UK).

"I am passionate about protecting wildlife," Jithoo says. "Poaching is a serious issue."

Chiko is a Bengal tiger cub who is found all alone in the wild by a young boy named Raja. Raja and his father try to find Chiko's mother, but tragically, she has been killed by poachers. Raja convinces his parents to let Chiko live with them, but when they try to reintroduce Chiko into the wild, he has trouble acclimating and ends up living in a zoo.

This touching, illustrated bedtime story also doubles as an essential educational tool. Teachers may find it to be a great jumping off point for group discussions on poaching and humane behavior integral to protecting wildlife.
