Author Brian Tordoff has taken great joy in solving Sudoku and figured that it would even be more interesting if it was played with letters. Thus sparked the idea to craft the letters and words Sudoku puzzle he writes about in "Letters and Words Sudoku" (published by Xlibris).

Tordoff uses the same basic rules as traditional number-based Sudoku, but uses letters rather than numbers. A finished puzzle would have nine letters from top-to-bottom and side-to-side. The puzzle then progresses into a word search puzzle, a hunt for the various words formed inside the completed puzzle, which is a not-so-simple task given how the words can go forwards and backwards, up and down, making it trickier than just left-to-right reading.

The puzzles in "Letters and Words" introduce an interesting twist to the traditional Sudoku puzzle. Tordoff is unaware of any such Sudoku game to have been previously described so readers, especially puzzle aficionados, may be in for a unique treat.
