GenEva Paulson lived through every mother's worst nightmare - her child was taken from her.

In her emotional and soul-baring memoir, Rescuing Randy, Paulson tells of the arduous journey she and her family began to retrieve her son from a dangerous devotion. Exposing the disturbing effects and distress caused by cult life, she details her son's entrapment and manipulation by a religious cult and her family's fight to reclaim him.

"There was never closure from the trauma our family went through. Writing this book has encouraged us to talk about our feelings, like a long-overdue debriefing," says Paulson. "My husband and I were surprised that after more than 20 years, we still had so many unshed tears and bottled up emotions," Paulson adds.

A navy recruit after his high school graduation, Paulson's son, Randy, joined a new following. After being baptized into their ministry team, the family saw Randy's drastic personality change. He became a stranger to Paulson as the cult drew him in deeper and deeper into their web of deceit.

As the Paulson's struggled through his abduction, deprogramming, snapping, exit counseling, and ultimate freedom, their faith grew stronger and their family bond grew deeper. Capturing the emotional repercussions of estrangement, Paulson's story offers a unique look into the damaging effects of a cult and the resilience of family relationships.
