ATLANTIS – AN AEGEAN ISLAND is Released

WEST BABYLON, N.Y. - Visiting the island of Santorini in the summer of 2012 and observing the volumetric size of its caldera led author Elias Stergakos to conclude that the eruption of such a large volcano and then its collapse into the sea must have had catastrophic consequences in the eastern Mediterranean. He connected this to Plato's dialogues "Kritias" and "Timaios" regarding the mythical island of Atlantis and now presents his theory on the origins of "ATLANTIS - AN AEGEAN ISLAND" (published by Xlibris).

Stergakos provides cogent arguments based on geological, volcanic, geographic and archeological evidence that led him to the conclusion that the mythical Atlantis was not an imaginary creation by Plato. He proposes that it was an island in the Aegean Sea, specifically the present day Santorini. The Atlanteans would have been the Bronze Age civilization that existed in the isle and a volcanic eruption provides a natural explanation for the divine punishment wrought by Poseidon as told in the stories.

"Natural catastrophes can be very devastating to human civilization whether they are induced by nature or by humans such is the case in our present day with global warming," Stergakos says.

"ATLANTIS - AN AEGEAN ISLAND" purports that myths do have a kernel of truth in them, providing evidence that Atlantis, a mythological island that has tantalized human curiosity for millennia now, did exist and it was the present day Santorini.

About the Author
Elias P. Stergakos was born in Potamia, a small village south of Sparta, Greece, in 1942 during the middle of the Second World War. In May of 1956, he and his younger brother joined his father and three other brothers in the USA. He continued his education and got his undergraduate degree in physics, his Masters in high energy physics and PhD in nuclear science and engineering; all within eight years. He worked in the private industry where he climbed the administrative ladder. He is presently retired and spends most of his time on the hobby of his life which is reading and writing and also traveling mainly to archeological places.
