We're thrilled to reveal Stage Door's next CD release is the previously unissued 1975 London cast recording of 'Jack The Ripper' due out on March 30th.
Featuring a score by Ron Pember, the musical opened at London's Players' theatre in June 1974 before transferring to the Ambassadors' and then the Cambridge Theatre, earning a nomination for Best Musical at the 1974 Evening Standard Theatre Awards (losing out to 'John, Paul, George, Ringo … and Bert'). Since the amateur rights were released by Samuel French in 1976 the show has proved a popular choice with societies across the world and the production is regularly staged by theatre groups every year in the UK.
Although a very poor quality unedited bootleg tape of the cast recording has been circulating for years, the new CD sounds fantastic having been digitally remastered from the original studio master tapes. We've uploaded the lead track 'Step Across The River' (sung by the phenomenal and much underrated 1970s West End leading lady Terese Stevens) to Soundcloud.
