I would imagine, since they are saying the climactic scenes are 20 minutes, and considering the logistics of setting up the ring set, that 20 minutes is not the length of the fight, but also includes what I would guess would be lengthy introductions of Rocky and Apollo as well as the conclusion of the fight, Rocky shouting for Adrian and a rousing final sequence.

Besides, for a story where the conflict isn't even to win the fight but to "go the distance" - a shortened fight wouldn't be very satisfying, would it? I think this sounds about right for what they'd have to do.

Words don't deserve that kind of malarkey. They're innocent, neutral, precise, standing for this, describing that, meaning the other, so if you look after them you can build bridges across incomprehension and chaos. But when they get their corners knocked off, they're no good anymore…I don't think writers are sacred, but words are. They deserve respect. If you get the right ones in the right order, you can nudge the world a little.

I finally got a flyer with a discount code in the mail yesterday (yayyyy!! $99.00 is now officially considered a discounted ticket. Poor house here I come!) I don't know why the various boards are being so stingy with the code but I'll post it when I get home. I looked today and good seats are practically non existent. I'm going to snag one anyway cause I do agree that this is going to be a huge hit.
Doea anyone who saw it in Germany remember the approximate running time?

Wow Matt, you are so correct. I tried to find Golden Circle tickets for early March and none are available. This show is going to be huge!

This show HAS to e a Huge hit, there's no middle ground here. Though there are no Star salaries, the technical aspects and advertising are going to riase the weekly nut. And it's in a Massive house. I hope it works out for all involved. The name ROCKY itself should be a large draw.

The fight was 15 rounds in the movie but I would be shocked if the actual "fighting" time was more than 10 minutes in this show. Besides the introductions and the end with Adrian that you mentioned, they will also show time the fighters spend with their trainers in their corner between rounds.

If this is a hit, it should provoke some soul-searching on Broadway about why it had to debut in Germany.

Why don't you go? Why don't you leave Manderley? He doesn't need you... he's got his memories. He doesn't love you, he wants to be alone again with her. You've nothing to stay for. You've nothing to live for really, have you?

You mean as opposed to opening cold in New York under daily scrutiny? With every note, every dance step, every lighting cue ripped apart on a nightly basis online in previews? Where people damn the show and deem it worthless from the very first preview? From everything we've seen do far, the producers seem to have done it right.

people's normal definition of "best seats" won't apply to this show.
With a nuge spinning boxing ring coming off the stage into the house, the best seats are gonna be further back than usual.
Mazz might even be best for this show.
I'm waiting to hear from people in early previews before I buy my tickets.

The ring doesn't come off the stage, at least it didn't in Germany

Oh I must be seeing things then.

Clips I see on youtube of the first act have people sitting in the center first few rows.
During the second act, there is spinning boxing ring extended over these same front center orch seats. The people on the sides in the first few rows are adjacent to the big spinning boxing ring that extwnds off the stage into the center of the orch seating.

I thought the Golden Circle customers were moved to the stage so that they wouldn't be decapitated when the big spinning boxing ring extends over their seats.

I'm in the minority here but I am just SO not interested in seeing this show. It can win all the Tony's, everyone on here can rave about how amazing it is, and it can run for 100 years but I just don't care. I'm normally not like this with new shows. I like to give everything the benefit of the doubt until I see it in person. But ever since I saw the poster for this show even just the thought of sitting through ROCKY THE MUSICAL (I can't believe anyone takes that seriously) makes my insides twitch. I'd rather walk on glass, honestly.

Ah, the old "some things CANNOT make good musicals" argument. Despite Little Shop of Horrors proving that bad, campy movies make good musicals, Sweeney Todd horror, Spelling Bee spelling bees and Wicked incredibly dense literature, people keep saying "some things just can't sing under any circumstances."

I heard that very quote from a colleague of mine as he sat in the makeup chair becoming Shrek.

Sounds like a ride in Disneyland, does the audience spin too? Like the Teacups?

It not called ROCKY THE MUSICAL. It is called ROCKY BROADWAY. And if you don't like the idea then don't go see it because no one except your mother cares what you think!

I never felt that the original movie Rocky was a smash hit because of the fight scene. I thought the fight scene was way over the top and completely unrealistic. It was a hit because of the way you feel about the characters BEFORE you get to the fight scene.

From what I have heard, that is the focus of this musical. This is primarily a love story with over 15 original songs prior to the fight scene. I suspect that the emotional investment you feel toward the characters going into the fight scene will be much more important than the actual fight scene and will likely determine the success of this musical.

Dented146 you are so correct about ROCKY. It is not a story of a fight. It is a story about a underdog fighter who finds redemption not through power in the boxing ring but rather through the power of love.

Try to forget those horrid sequels and go back to the original story when Stallone could actually give a good performance and Talia Shire stole the film as Adrian.

I have a friend who has friend (yes, it is one of those stories) who is a rehearsal musician on Rocky Broadway and says that Margo Seibert is going to give the surprise performance of the year.

Disagree, the fight is the major story. Rocky was based on the real life fight between Chuck Wepner and Mohammed Ali. All the incredible training Rocky did was because he wanted to go "the distance - 15 rounds" and not be humilated by Apollo Creed. Yes, there is a love story between Rocky and Adrian but that is not the main focus of the movie IMO.

Rocky is not a fight film, that had little to do with the story. It's a love story of two lonely lost people. In fact if you remember the film and spoiler... and shame on you if you haven't seen after 38 years, it has a happy ending despite Rocky losing because it ends with Rocky and Adrian literally finding each other again in the crowded ring.

Actually, if you go back and comb through the blitz of media interviews you'll find that Stallone's inspiration to write the movie was the Ali/Wepner fight and he considered that the "main story." So while to some the inspiration and focus behind it is the love story, that's an objective view. I err on the side of the writer in this case. It was intended to be an American sports film first and foremost.

Exactly. Think of the classic scenes in the movie and it is all about the upcoming fight and the actual fight. Rocky running up and down the steps in Philly. Rocky in the meat factory punching the huge slabs of meat. The exciting action packed fight and the banter between Rocky and Apollo Creed. Finally, like you said I think the writer of the story/movie knows best.
