SHREK THE MUSICAL is proud to announce The Duloc Ticket Lottery at Shrek’s Swamp Shoppe, located on the 3rd floor of M&M’S WORLD® in Times Square (1600 Broadway).

Starting at 9:00AM each morning, patrons are invited to enter a lottery drawing to purchase a limited number of rush tickets priced at $26.50 to that day’s performance. Names will be drawn at random for 16 rush tickets at 10:00AM. There will be a limit of two tickets per person and winners must be present with valid identification at the time of the drawing to purchase their tickets. On two show days, both drawings will take place at 10:00AM, but patron’s can only enter one drawing.

That's the weirdest lotto ever.

only allowed to enter one drawing? that is crazy.

well, I guess if you go with one other person, they sign up for a matinee and you sign up for evening. I guess same good odds.

Weird Timing? Please 'splain?

I think it weird, not to mention FREAKISHLY commercial, that the lotto will take place at M&M!

Is there any other rush that holds it at a retail establishment...or anywhere besides the box office????

After the election I got MacDonalds..and then the drunker I got that night the more convinced I was that I'd won $100,000.

I didn't.

I called the timing weird because most lotteries are held within three hours of the curtain, not in the morning, when people who have actual jobs cannot possible enter.

Thanks for the clarification!

I have to admit...I've wavered back and forth as to whether I wanted to see this. This puts another weight on the negative side. Brash commercialism. Ick.

BUT...my children really want to see this; we'll see how the reviews go!

but having both lotteries at the same time? Heaven forbid you want to make prior arrangements and buy tickets for either a matinee or evening performance that day!
LAME! ALREADY getting off on the wrong foot...

I personally like the idea of having the lotto at the same time for two show days. I think it gives everyone a better shot of winning because it will split the amount of people in half and depending on the time of year you may have nearly everyone trying for a matinee or night performance and it makes your odds even better!

It's early enough in the morning that if you don't win you can still attend other rush/lotto lines without having to pin your hopes on just one show.

I believe you would still choose WHICH lotto you are interested in....but only submit your name to one, not both. So you could still have your plans.

So I was at the MnM store earlier today, and they are selling the hell out of this lotto, so I played tourist and took some pics.

It all starts with the person flyering for Shrek at the front door, then the signs directing you to the third floor, and the banners hanging from the third floor railing

re: SHREK THE MUSICAL Announces Ticket Lottery

re: SHREK THE MUSICAL Announces Ticket Lottery

to the, of course, Shrek merchandise

re: SHREK THE MUSICAL Announces Ticket Lottery

(which was actually slightly disappointing, because I was at least expecting some kinda Shrek *candy*, but it was all clothing and mugs and such)

But so the poster with the official rules

re: SHREK THE MUSICAL Announces Ticket Lottery

had info on it that I don't remember reading in the press release:
- cash only
- if you win you are given a voucher, and then have to purchase your tix at the box office.
- voucher must be turned in/tix purchased at box office by 12noon

And here is a picture of some Central Park MnMs, just for fun:

Anakela thanks so much for posting all of that. I was going to ask if they were accepting names from 9-10 or just 9-9:30 (and draw at 10 almost like YF) - it just seemed an hour-long sign up time seemed pretty unconventional for lottos, but your post clarified it :)

I KNOW! Stupid Broadway producers and their damn $26 orchestra seats that don't require a student ID.

I'm confused....are they drawing 16 names for 32 tickets.....or 8 names for 16 tickets?

I did the lottery this morning. They pulled 8 names for 16 tickets. I actually won, 4th name called and only needed 1 ticket - so at the end they made an announcement about only having one ticket left. It was pretty chaotic, the space where the lottery is held is very small (and right at the string of cash registers) and there were a good 70-80 people ... It didnt help that there were people on the streets passing out flyers announcing the lottery. If you try the lottery, remember to get your slip back. When they called my name, they checked my ID - had me sign off on this clipboard and afterwards I asked if that was all and they said Yes. When I walked to the theater to purchase my ticket, they told me that I had to take my ticket entry and they apologized for it being so chaotic.

If anyone is curious, tickets are ROW B but on the side orch. I got seat 6, and I'm assuming since I was second in line the couple in front of me got 2, 4. Although they draw names and write them down in order, it's pretty much first come first serve for ticket pick up before noon.

It was pretty chaotic. What actually happened (I was the last name drawn) is that the guy calling the lottery didn't realize the girl writing the names and collecting the signatures was behind by one. So they were about to put me down (after he said they would be drawing for a single), the girl doing the writing said "No, this one is only one ticket. We only have one left." So the man who seemed to be in charge went to go and try to find a solution since they had said mine was for 2 already (no single name had been drawn yet). He came back and asked if there was anyone who could go on Monday night instead, and one couple volunteered. So they only sold 15 tickets tonight because he had already said it was over.

It also got really chaotic up on the third floor with about 10 minutes to go because they made an announcement about it in the store as well.

And yeah, my friend and I got 2 and 4. We weren't sure if they were lining us up in any order, but it just appeared she was taking the slip and ID. Maybe the chart is more to keep track of tickets? I don't know.

See you tonight dshnookie! :)

Congrats on winning you guys!

My little group had no names called, but it was interesting to watch- for the first day they were pretty well organized (SMALL space it is being held in notwithstanding). The guy passing out the slips kept flipping thru them looking for duplicates before the drawing, and at one point I walked up with someone who hadn't signed up yet (showing her where to go), and he was all "you've already signed up" to me, lol.

The way they're dealing with 'one ticket left' is strange, though- any other lotto that I've done if there is only one ticket left and they draw your name and you've circled 'two' you're still given the chance to take the only one ticket or not (aka do you ditch your friend, or no?). What was explained at the Shrek lotto, though, when they thought they had the only one left, was that they were going to keep pulling slips out until they pulled a slip that had circled 'one,' and *that* would be the person to get it, anyone who had circled 'two' would not be given the opportunity to ditch their friend.

Still no Shrek candy for sale, but the green footprints on the floors showing you how to get to the third floor were new since yesterday (sorry- no pics :))
