"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

"I never had theatre producers run after me. Some people want to make more Broadway shows out of movies. But Elliot and I aren't going to do Batman: The Musical." - Julie Taymor 1999
There's a few that were not mentioned in the initial post...
I know for a fact that during the 4th season THE WILD PARTY had two numbers on two separate episodes; Eartha Kitt did "Moving Uptown" and Toni Collette did "Lowdown Down". Also during the same season my favorite television moment of all time occurred: Audra MacDonald and the 3 spirits/Greek chorus/prisoners (Mary Bond Davis, etc) performed "I Will Give" from MARIE CHRISTINE. It was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! And who could forget the Patti Lupone/Audra MacDonald duet of "Happy Times Are Here Again".
How about just making a Rosie O Show DVD- Broadway or something. I just want to see all of those performances!
2008 European Tour
London: Les Mis, Lion King, Sound of Music, Joseph, Hairspray, Billy Elliot
France: Le Roi Lion, Cabaret
Germany: Der Konig der Lowen
Holland: Tarzan & Les Mis
I hope it happens, but there could be the chance that producers, or whoever handles the clearances for this type of thing may not give the green light and then.... It could be a totally different situation, but for example: Performances that were broadcast on the Tony Awards telecast were not ALL allowed to be included on the "Lost Treasures" series.
Two of my favorite performances were Cheno singing "Taylor the Latte Boy" and "My New Philosophy" And Christine Ebersole sang what I think was, "Baby, You Hung the Moon". I always loved when Christine was on there, the stories she told were so funny. Yea for Rosie DVD!
That's great news! I think it was the best talkshow ever... she was not egocentric like some other hosts, and whenever she mentioned herself, it was related to the conversation. It always felt very casual and as a result, the guests always felt more at ease than in other shows... I have no idea how many guests she's had and how many DVDs they plan on releasing but she's always been 100% behind Broadway performers so there is a chance that a lot of them will end up on the DVDs. Now who will be included... who knows? The 'biggest names' like Buckley, Lupone, Lane, Andrews are pretty sure to make the cut but beyond that... I guess it depends how many DVDs they are planning to release.
Anyway... excellent news!
"What book of rules says that theatre exists only within some ugly buildings crowded into one square-mile of New York City? Wherever there's magic and make-believe and an audience, there's theatre..."
I am also wondering if she's just going to release Best Of... DVDs or something. I mean, 6 seasons at 100-ish one-hour episodes (guessing) a year? That would be a LOT of DVDs.
Here's hoping it's a series of Rosie's Broadway DVDs, and not just Best of Rosie's Crush on Tom Cruise Moments (Ha!!!) or something.
My guess is it will be a "best of" volume 1 and 2. Hopefully, it will be season sets!

Hear hear! If they don't have the whole show on DVDs, I hope that they at least make one or two especially with Broadway performers! It's so rare to see them on TV!

That's so exciting! I went to her show when I was 10 and never got to see it because of the Olympics that summer....I'll be one of the first people to buy it!
I really want this to be true. I've waited all these years to hear and see (again) Orfeh singing "If I Can't Have You". It was incredible and I can't believe I didn't tape it. Also have been dying to see Toni collette again too.
I'm hoping they'll do tapes with only the B'way performances on them. I have zero desire to see her show again or to have it permanently on DVD - but the performances? Definitely!
