 Howard County's signature event, the Celebration of the Arts in Howard County galawill be heldon Saturday, March 23, 2013 at the Peter and Elizabeth Horowitz Visual and Performing Arts Center at Howard Community College.
 
Come Celebrate with us and enjoy our reception featuring culinary delights from area restaurants and caterers, bid on wonderful artwork by local artists at the silent auction, and enjoy performances throughout the Grand Hall, Smith and Studio Theatres. At 8 p.m. guests will be invited inside the Smith Theatre for the presentation of the 2012 Howie Awards and the Rising Star Competition. The 2013 Howard County Arts Council Arts Scholarship recipients will also be announced. Tickets will be available for purchase in January 2013.
 
The Rising Star Competition showcases ten young (ages 18-35) performing artists or ensembles – living, working or studying in Howard County – vying for a no-strings-attached professional development award. The audience will choose a winner to receive $5,000.  Applications for the 2013 competition are available at www.hocoarts.org, with a final submission deadline of November 1, 2012.
 
The 2012 Howie Awards will also be presented on the Main Stage at the Celebration of the Arts.  The Howie Awards are presented annually to an Outstanding Artist, Outstanding Arts Educator, and Outstanding Business or Community Supporter of the Arts.  Nominees are judged on their long-term contributions and the significant impact they have on the artistic life of Howard County.  Nomination forms are available online at the Arts Council's website,www.hocoarts.org.  Nominations must be postmarked or faxed no later than November 1, 2012.
 
Richard W. Story, Senior Vice President for Marketing of JPB Enterprises, Inc., will serve as Event Emcee and Dr. Kathleen Hetherington, President for Howard Community College, will serve as Honorary Chair.
