The National High School Musical Theater Awards (NHSMTA) selected 62 finalists from tens of thousands of students to compete for the coveted Jimmy Award for Best Performance by an Actor and Best Performance by an Actress, last week at the Minskoff Theatre. Hosted by the Tony Award-nominated stars of Rodgers + Hammerstein's CINDERELLA, Laura Osnes and Santino Fontana, the fifth annual performance showcase featured dynamic ensemble and solo performances exclusively from the musical theater cannon. Sarah Lynn Marion, from Fullerton, CA and Taylor Varga, from Newtown, CT took home the big awards for the evening and BroadwayWorld was on the scene for all of the festivities. Just last week, TKTS in Times Square, the same-day discount theatre outlet for Broadway and Off Broadway shows celebrated 40 years in Times Square. Beginning at 11am, there was a special celebration in honor of TKTS' 40th Anniversary behind the TKTS Booth on Broadway and 47th Street. The Broadway League has just partnered with the Department of Education on a very unique High School internship program. 22 NYC Public High School seniors from four boroughs were selected to participate in an internship program to learn more about Broadway. The General Managers and Company Managers of six Broadway shows participated in giving these students an up close and personal learning experience of the business and performance aspects of Broadway.
