In a recent interview with Latina.com, Wilson Cruz, who will guest star in ABC's Grey's Anatomy tonight, January 13, went on the record about what it is like to work alongside Broadway vet Sara Ramirez

Cruz told Latina: "We've been friends for about 13 years, but we've never had the opportunity to work together, so I was thrilled to get the chance to work with a friend I've held in such high esteem. I've been a fan since the moment I saw her on stage in Capeman on Broadway back in 1997, when I was doing Rent in NY. We had an amazing time on set and she could not have been more generous and supportive to me. My love affair with Sara Ramirez continues, stronger than ever!"

On Ramirez's character he added, "Callie is one of the most important gay characters on TV right now. Callie is not just her sexuality or her race. She is a highly regarded expert in her field, and a complex three-dimensional woman. I believe her to be an outstanding role model for the LGBT and Latino communities. It's a groundbreaking role."

Ramirez debuted on Broadway playing Wahzinak in Paul Simon's The Capeman (1998). In 1999, she appeared in The Gershwins' Fascinating Rhythm (1999) and received an Outer Critics Circle Award nomination for her role. She has also appeared in A Class Act (2001) and Dreamgirls (2001), and she performed in The Vagina Monologues with Tovah Feldshuh and Suzanne Bertish. In 2004, Ramírez was cast as the Lady of the Lake in the Eric Idle/John Du Prez musical Spamalot, based on the 1975 film Monty Python and the Holy Grail. The musical opened on Broadway in 2005 to widespread acclaim, and Ramírez in particular was singled out for her performance, winning several awards including the 2005 Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical. Following her success on Broadway, Ramírez joined the cast of Grey's Anatomy in a recurring role as Dr. Calliope 'Callie' Torres in the show's second season.

Cruz starred as Enrique "Rickie" Vasquez, a troubled gay teen, in the short-lived cult classic TV series My So-Called Life.  In 1998, he portrayed Angel in the Broadway production of RENT and, in 2000, played Victor during the final season of Party of Five. Cruz's other acting credits include the films Joyride (1996), All Over Me (1997), Supernova (2000), Party Monster (2003) and He's Just Not That Into You (2009); the television film The Perfect Pitch (2002); and guest appearances on the series Great Scott!, Sister, Sister, ER, Ally McBeal, The West Wing, and Noah's Arc. Most recently, Cruz starred as Adrian in the film Ode (2007), based on the novel Ode to Lata by Ghalib Shiraz Dhalla.
