Wagner's DIE MEISTERSINGER Broadcast from the Met at Town Hall Theater, 12/3

Town Hall Theater will broadcast the Metropolitan Opera production of Richard Wagner's comedic opera Die Meistersinger Von Nürnberg on December 13 at 12 noon.

Die Meistersinger tells the tale of a young knight who must win a singing competition and become a "master singer" to marry his love. James Levine returns to Wagner with a signature run of this epic comedy, which is back at the Met for the first time in eight years. James Morris and Michael Volle share the central role of Hans Sachs. Johan Botha reprises his indomitable Walther, and the elegant Annette Dasch is Eva.

The opera is a long one, clocking in at 5:50. The Opera Company of Middlebury will sell food at the first intermission and dessert at the second intermission.

"I think this is a rare opportunity to experience this masterwork," says THT executive director Douglas Anderson. "It's great for those of us who will probably never be near an opera company that's producing this epic piece. This is the time to see it."

Die Meistersinger Von Nürnberg will be shown on the THT big screen on Saturday, December 13 at 12 noon. Tickets are $24/$10 students, and may be purchased at www.townhalltheater.org, 802 382-9222, at the THT Box Office (Noon-5pm, Mon-Sat) or at the door.
