Continuing its "Season of Premieres," Utah Repertory Theater Company will stage four additional first-in-the-state productions during its 2014 season.

The company's Utah premiere productions are "Grace," "August: Osage County," "[title of show]" and "Bare." The company launched the season with the Frank Wildhorn musical "Bonnie & Clyde."

"When we organized Utah Rep, we saw a glaring need in Utah that we have tried to fill," said Johnny Hebda, the company's founder. "The community at large rarely gets the opportunity to see or be involved with some powerful and worthwhile productions as the shows - often state premieres - that we select.

"Audiences have responded very well to the company, which they see as 'the new kid in town.' And our audiences have continued to grow," he added. "They have appreciated not having to travel outside the state to see quality, yet seldom-produced theater."

The performance dates are:

  • "Grace," April 25-May 10; directed by JC Carter, a co-production with Around the Globe Theatre Company.
  • "August: Osage County," Aug. 15-31; directed by Mark Fossen, a co-production with Silver Summit Theatre Company.
  • "[title of show]," Nov. 7-22; directed by Chase Ramsey.
  • "Bare," Jan. 16-31; directed by Johnny Hebda.

The company has begun sales of season tickets, which can be purchased at utahrep.org/tickets/season-tickets/. The price of a season ticket for the four shows remaining in the season is $50, a savings of $10 from the purchase of four general-admission tickets at $60.

Hebda described the productions Utah Rep looks to stage as "enlightening, thought-provoking and entertaining."

"The shows may require audiences to tackle subject matters that aren't always 'safe,' but with topics that are universal and relatable," he said. "Good theater encourages audiences to leave thinking and contemplating the messages and topics explored in the production. That is our goal."

The company's first show in the season, "Bonnie & Clyde," Hebda said "was wildly successful, with nearly every performance sold out."

He added, "We are excited to collaborate with other theater companies this season and bring in guest directors. We feel this will continue to increase the standards of excellence we are aiming for. And I could not be more excited for this season."
