Ken Davenport and Robyn Goodman proudly announce the long running off-Broadway show, Altar Boyz (now also in the midst of a National Tour), has endorsed Attorney General Eliot Spitzer for Governor of New York. No other musical has ever endorsed a candidate.

Producer Ken Davenport explains, "We are making this unprecedented move because Eliot Spitzer clearly has fought to represent the needs and concerns of the underdog in New York, and as a small show that has fought, survived and thrived in the complicated New York theater environment, we appreciate what he stands for. Off-Broadway shows are the underdogs of the theatrical community, and we need more leaders like Mr. Spitzer looking out for us, ensuring that there will be many more shows like Altar Boyz on the boards in the years to come. We hope the support of our show and our ever-growing fan base will be of help to him in his campaign."

Eliot Spitzer was elected New York State Attorney General in 1998 in a stunning upset – Altar Boyz won the 2005 Outer Critics Circle Award in a similar upset. Eliot Spitzer is running for governor to bring the values, determination, and passion for fairness that have defined his tenure as Attorney General to Albany. Those values define Altar Boyz as well.

Altar Boyz, the acclaimed musical comedy now in its second year Off-Broadway at New World Stages, is the winner of the coveted Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Musical Off-Broadway, and the longest running new musical comedy to open in New York in years! It was also recently awarded the Audience Award for Favorite Long Running Musical from Broadway.com. Full of sharp parody, sinfully spectacular dancing, and irreverent humor, this spoof about a heavenly guy-group is adored by audiences and critics alike. With an extraordinary mix of side-splitting songs "convincing enough to be played on MTV," uncontrollable laughs and lighthearted fun, this award-winning and totally original new musical is 90 minutes of pure delight that's suitable for all ages and will have the whole family laughing and singing along.

Among the devoted fans of Altar Boyz, known as Altarholics, are such bold-faced names as Ana Gasteyer ("Saturday Night Live"), Anthony Rapp and Rosario Dawson (Rent film), Cynthia Nixon, David Hyde Pierce, Ellen Greene (Little Shop of Horrors), Jason Kidd (NJ Nets), Jeff Timmons (98 Degrees), Jennifer Ferrin ("As The World Turns"), Jerry Mitchell, Joan Rivers, John Kander (Cabaret, Chicago), Kathy Bates, Kevin Bacon, Liza Minnelli, Maria Friedman and Michael Ball (Woman in White), Mario Cantone, Michael Cerveris (Sweeney Todd), Ricky Paull Goldin ("Guiding Light"), Rosie O'Donnell, Simon Russell Beale, Stephen Flaherty (Ragtime), Stephen Schwartz (Wicked), Stephen Sondheim, Terrence McNally, Tommy Tune, Trevor Penick (O-Town), Twyla Tharp and countless others who have seen the show over and over. Altar Boyz is directed by Stafford Arima and choreographed by Christopher Gattelli. Altar Boyz has music & lyrics by Gary Adler and Michael Patrick Walker with book by Kevin Del Aguila, based on a concept by Marc Kessler and Ken Davenport. Tickets for the tour of Altar Boyz as well as the NYC production may be ordered toll-free at 877-ABOYZ-411. For more information, visit www.altarboyz.com
