Pace Presents is proud to bring Taylor 2 as a part of their exciting season of dance this spring to the Michael Schimmel Center for the Arts at Pace University. Called "a kind of miracle..." by the New York Times, Paul Taylor's renowned Taylor 2 Company, composed of six professionals with a particular gift for his style will perform at the Schimmel Center Thursday, April 24 through Saturday, April 26 at 7:30PM. Live music for all performances provided by the distinguished orchestra American Virtuosi, an ensemble of period and modern instruments, conducted by Kenneth Hamrick, Artistic Director. Live music made possible by a gift from Dr. Frank L Ellsworth and Dr. Kristin L. Ellsworth and the American Virtuosi Foundation Inc. as part of the Live Music for Dance Initiative.

The program will consist of three works choreographed by Paul Taylor; "AIRS" with music by George Frideric Handel, "ESPLANADE," with music by Johann Sebastian Bach, and Taylor 2's first performance of "The Uncommitted" in New York City with music by Arvo Pärt. All three pieces will be accompanied by American Virtuosi, a 14-member Baroque orchestra heralded by The Washington Post as "the perfect dancing partner." The orchestra will be situated throughout the space of the Schimmel Center creating a live "surround sound" experience.

"Mr. Taylor has chosen 3 of his greatest dances to be performed at the Schimmel Center this May" said John Tomlinson, Executive Director of the Paul Taylor Dance Foundation, "He is especially happy that we are working with Kenneth Hamrick and the American Virtuosi Orchestra to have these dances performed with live music by world class musicians. This is the way dance was meant to be seen."

Paul Taylor is known as one of the pioneers of modern dance, his choreography noted for its physicality and grace as well as its cultural relevance. Mr. Taylor established Taylor 2 in 1993 to ensure that audiences all over the world could see his works. He worked with longtime colleague Linda Hodes to create a company that could accommodate performance requests as well as teach and provide community outreach, and he looked back to the 1954 origins of his larger company for the structure of his new company: six professionals with a particular gift for his style who perform his work throughout the world. In selecting repertoire for Taylor 2, Mr. Taylor chooses dances that span the broad spectrum of his work. Several of the dances performed by Taylor 2 have been re-worked from the Paul Taylor Dance Company's version to enable the smaller ensemble of dancers to perform them.
