PHANTOM Haunts Bass Concert Hall

By:

Andrew Lloyd Webber's classic musical, The Phantom of the Opera, has begun a three-week stand at UT's Bass Concert Hall.  Holding the title of longest running show on Broadway (over 9,200 performances to-date) and the most successful entertainment event in history - surpassing Broadway's Wicked and even Hollywood's Avatar - Phantom's timeless score is ingrained in the world's vernacular.

Tim Martin Gleason stars in the title role alongside Trista Modlovan as Christine and Sean MacLaughlin as Raoul.  The story revolves around a Paris opera house of the late 1800s, haunted by an unseen presence that makes itself known with witty notes and trickery in order to run the opera house as it desires.

When a mysterious accident on stage occurs and chorus girl Christine Daaé is asked to step in for a traumatized lead diva, the mystery is kicked up a few notches.  More notes dictating how the opera is to be run arrive, demanding Christine be given the lead in their new show, lest a terrible disaster occur.

Giving in to the pressures of the opera's headliners, the house managers go against the Phantom's wishes.  Holding true to his word, the grand chandelier is shattered in the middle of the performance, bringing the house operations to a grinding halt.  The managers receive more notes from the Phantom, including a newly scored opera declaring Christine lead the production.

What comes to pass reveals the intensity of emotions of love and turmoil and shows just what the human psyche is capable of when pushed to the point of no return.

The Phantom of the Opera is playing at Bass Concert Hall through April 4.  Tickets are available at Broadway Across America or at the box office.
