Mad Horse Theatre Company gives theater- goers a reason to bundle up and leave the house on a cold winter's night-a heartwarming production of Pulitzer Prize winning playwright David Lindsay-Abaire's KIMBERLY AKIMBO.

Set in the wilds of suburban New Jersey, KIMBERLY AKIMBO is a hilarious and heartrending play about a teenager with a rare genetic disorder that causes her body to age much faster than it should. At 16 years old, Kimberly is a teenager in a geriatric body. When she and her family flee Secaucus under dubious circumstances, Kimberly is forced to reevaluate her life while contending with a hypochondriac mother, a rarely sober father, a scam-artist aunt, her own mortality and, most terrifying of all, the possibility of first love.

KIMBERLY AKIMBO stars Mad Horse Company member Tootie Van Reenen in the title row, along with fellow Company members Burke Brimmer , Janice Gardner, and former Company member Shannon Campbell. Guest artist Thomas Ian Campbell rounds out the talented ensemble.

The play is directed by Company member Nate Speckman, who is also the Sound Designer for the production.

"I am so happy to be bringing the work of David Lindsay-Abaire to life with this play," says Speckman. "It is a lovely piece that I think a lot of people will enjoy and identify with on some level. It has been a very interesting experience for both Tootie Van Reenen and myself to find the character of Kimberly. With Tootie being a mature woman, the exciting challenge will be playing a 16 year old. I think the audience will watch Tootie and truly believe she is 16."

The production crew includes Stage Manager Andrew Hesselbart, Set Designer Scott Leland, Lighting Designer Heather Crocker, Costume Designer Anna Halloran, Props Designer/Production Manager Kat Moraros, and Graphic Designer Stacey Collins.

KIMBERLY AKIMBO runs January 22 through February 8, 2015, at the Mad Horse Theatre, 24 Mosher Street, South Portland.

Performance times are Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30, and Sunday afternoons at 2pm. There will be an Opening Night Reception immediately following the Friday, January 23 performance, and a Talk Back session with the director and cast immediately following the Sunday, February 1, matinee.

Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for seniors and students. As always, Mad Horse offers Pay What You Can performances each Thursday during the run, as available at the door.

Reservations are strongly recommended. Purchase tickets online at www.madhorse.com or call 747-4148 for more information. Call for Group Rates.
