TMZ reports that a lawsuit has been filed by producers of the mega Broadway hit musical HAMILTON against merchandisers who have been illegally hawking t-shirts and other goods featuring the iconic logo from the show.

In documents obtained by TMZ, HAMILTON lawyers claim SunFrog and a company called GearLaunch are employing the iconic logo, which features a silhouette of the titular Founding Father, without permission.

According to the site, GearLaunch defended the sale of their products by claiming that they assumed freelance t-shirt designers had already obtained legal rights to the image.

The lawsuit asks that all sales and marketing of the alleged faux merchandise be halted immediately. In addition, they hope to recoup all profits that have been earned thus far. Stay tuned...

The new musical Hamilton has book, music and lyrics by Tony and Grammy Award-winning composer Lin-Manuel Miranda. The musical is directed by Thomas Kail, with choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler and music direction and orchestrations by Alex Lacamoire. Hamilton is inspired by Ron Chernow's biography "Alexander Hamilton."

HAMILTON is the acclaimed new musical about the scrappy young immigrant Alexander Hamilton, the $10 Founding Father who forever changed America with his revolutionary ideas and actions. During his life cut too short, he served as George Washington's chief aide, was the first Treasury Secretary, a loving husband and father, despised by his fellow Founding Fathers and shot to death by Aaron Burr in their legendary duel.
