According to Variety, theatre veterans Patricia Clarkson, Pablo Schreiber and Carrie Preston will appear in legendary director Woody Allen's latest opus - an untitled film that Allen calls a "love letter to Barcelona and from Barcelona to the world."

Clarkson (Eastern Standard, The House of Blue Leaves), Schreiber (Awake and Sing!, Dying City) and Preston (Festen, The Rivals) join film stars Scarlett Johansson, Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz, as well as Zak Orth (SubUrbia), Abel Folk, Lluis Homar, Joel Joan, Julio Perillan and Mireia Ros.  As Allen is famously secretive about his films while they're in production, no details about the film's title and plot have been announced. It will start shooting in Spain on July 9th, however.

At a recent press conference, Spanish Culture Minister Carmen Calvo stated that Allen "makes philosophy with cinema. He's a brilliant example of what cinema represents in contemporary culture."  Allen returned the love, saying "I hope I can present Barcelona to the world as I see it, the same way I presented Manhattan to the world as I saw it with my eyes."

An Oscar-winner for writing and directing Annie Hall and for his Hannah and Her Sisters screenplay, Allen is the author of the Broadway plays Don't Drink the Water, Play It Again, Sam and The Floating Light Bulb.  Known for his wittily neurotic persona and skill with both comedic and dramatic films, Allen's acclaimed body of work includes Sleeper, Take the Money and Run, Bananas, Love and Death, Interiors, Manhattan, Stardust Memories, Zelig, Broadway Danny Rose, The Purple Rose of Cairo, September, Husbands and Wives, Crimes and Misdemeanors, Bullets Over Broadway, Mighty Aphrodite, Sweet and Lowdown, Hollywood Ending, Melinda and Melinda, Match Point and Scoop, as well as the upcoming Cassandra's Dream.

As previously announced, Allen will make his operatic directing debut with Puccini's comedic opera Gianni Schicchi (part of the composer's Il Trittico) at the Los Angeles Opera in fall of 2008.
