The Hollywood Blacklist, with Walter Bernstein
Tonight, March 6
6:30 pm

In the late 1940s and throughout the 1950s, Sen. Joseph McCarthy carried out a witch hunt for Communists that led to the creation of the infamous Hollywood blacklist, resulting in 150 directors, actors, writers, and others in the entertainment business being banned from making a living for over a decade.

Don't miss this screening of The Front (1976), which received an Oscar nomination for best screenplay. Written by Walter Bernstein, himself a victim of the blacklist, the movie takes a comedic look at what happened during this dark period in American History. Bernstein is the author of "Inside Out: A Memoir of the Blacklist." Among his films are: Miss Evers' Boys, The House on Carroll Street, Yanks, Semi-Tough, The Train, Little Miss Marker, and Fail-Safe (also nominated for an Academy Award for best screenplay.) The screening will be followed by a Q&A.

Walter Bernstein is and Adjunct Professor of Screenwriting at the NYU Goldberg Department of Dramatic Writing; Creative Advisor at the Sundance Screenwriting Workshop. Recipient of the Writers Guild of America-East Award for Lifetime Achievement and the Burkey Award, the Gotham Award for Writers from the Independent Film Project, the Hudson Valley Film Festival Screenwriting Award and the Nantucket Screenwriting Award.

Brian Rose, Professor of Media Studies at Fordham University and moderator for BAFTA and The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences,will moderate.

The Hollywood Blacklist is presented with The School of Media Studies at The New School for Public Engagement. The event will take place at The New School, The Auditorium at 66 West 12th St (between 5th and 6th Aves.).

Creating Apps: Reaching Out in Real-Time

Creating Apps will feature Chris Cunningham, co-founder and CEO of appssavvy, Drew Breunig, VP of Strategy at PlaceIQ, and Smita Saran, Senior Manager and Corporate Communications at StubHub.

Creating Apps is presented with NYIT Auditorium on Broadway and the Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment. It will take place at the NYIT Auditorium on Broadway.

Animation Domination: How to Make It
Wednesday, March 19
6:30 to 8:00 pm

Animation has evolved dramatically over the past two decades, from endless labors with cels and paint to the evolving and much less arduous technique of digital animation, with dozens of hybrid methods in between. Here's your chance to hear from award-winning animators about the skills you need to break in to this highly competitive field.

Animation Domination will feature Leah Shore, animator for Google, Warner Bros., Vice, Adult Swim, and Meetup.com, Michelle Higa Fox, animator and Creative Director at Slanted Studios, Alan Foreman, freelance animator and director for television series including Home Movies (Cartoon Network),Time Warp Trio (Discovery Kids), Word Girl (PBS), and Speed Racer: The Next Generation (Nicktoons Networks), and Lizzi Akana, director, animator, and designer. Adam Natale, SVA Theatre director, will moderate.
