The Baltimore Book Festival arrives in Mount Vernon on September 27, and Center Stage will participate all weekend long. On Saturday, September 28, the Theater will once again open its doors during the festival for Backstage @ Center Stage. Families can join Center Stage staff, artists, and volunteers for the annual, free open house that offers a behind-the-scenes look at the theater.

In addition, Center Stage will produce at the Book Festival, The Container, a riveting play by Clare Bayley that immerses audiences within an actual shipping container. The play is the first production of Center Stage's new Third Space(s) initiative, which brings dynamic theater to unexpected locations.

Backstage @ Center Stage: Saturday, September 28 from 10 am to 2 pm, Center Stage will invite families to experience all that the theater has to offer. From tours to workshops, demonstrations from the tech shops, and performances from local theater groups, the building will be bustling with fun for young and old. Join the cast of Animal Crackers for a Q&A, hear local storytellers, take your picture in the costume photo booth, and much more.

The Container: Center Stage launches its Third Space(s) artistic initiative with The Container, written by Clare Bayley and directed by Johanna Gruenhut. The Container brings a small audience into an actual shipping container with a group of refugees fleeing to England. How far will they have to go to get what they want?

There is LIMITED AVAILABILITY to performances of The Container. Call the Box Office, 410.332.0033, to reserve your space. Tickets are free. You can also visit our booth at the Baltimore Book Festival to have your name added to a stand-by list. The stand-by list will open up one hour prior each performance and is first come, first serve. The Center Stage booth is located at Charles St. & E. Mount Vernon Place (east side) beside the container. *Note: Given the nature of the space, there is no late seating. Unredeemed tickets will be released 5 minutes prior to show start time.

Third Space(s) is an artistic initiative dedicated to producing exciting work in unconventional spaces both within Center Stage's existing theater building and in locations throughout Baltimore.
