Bryan Singer Confirms Next X-MEN Installment Coming in 2016

X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST director Bryan Singer has confirmed another installment in the hit Marvel franchise is on the way.

Singer tweeted just this afternoon: "#Xmen #Apocalypse 2016!"

There's been no mention of 'APOCALYPSE' until now, though reports from Variety and ComingSoon.net confirm it's most definitely the title of 20th Century Fox's next film, and will include the famed Marvel character - and has released an officialy May 27, 2016 theatrical release.

Per ComingSoon, "Apocalypse, created by Louise and Walter Simonson, made his debut in X-Factor #6. The world's first mutant, En Sabah Nur was born in Egypt around 3,000 BC and used advanced technology to make himself an eternal conquerer, believing whole heartedly in survival of the fittest.

The character's most popular storyline, "The Age of Apocalypse," ran in the X-Men books beginning in 1995. Set in a paralell reality formed by interference to the timeline, "The Age of Apocalypse" saw Xavier murdered before he could form the X-Men. Instead, a very different take on the team began with Magneto leading them through a post-apocalyptic America ruled by mutants."

X MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST hits theaters on May 23, 2014 and stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, and Jennifer Lawrence. Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Halle Berry, Peter Dinklage and Shawn Ashmore. Get a first look below!

The film will act as something of a sequel to 'First Class'. Days of Future Past is taken from two issues of Marvel Comics' Uncanny X-Men in 1981. The story was set in an alternate future in which surviving mutants were confined to concentration camps, while most of the X-Men had been killed. In order to stop this dismal future from unfolding, the X-Men had to stop a specific event from occurring in the past.
