Annie MacRae Named New Associate Artistic Director of Atlantic Theater Company

Atlantic Theater Company has announced that Annie MacRae has been appointed the company's Associate Artistic Director.

"We are thrilled to have Annie MacRae join Atlantic," Artistic Director Neil Pepe said. "She is an extraordinarily knowledgeable and savvy theater person who has impeccable taste and is a passionate champion of new work. Annie is an excellent addition to Atlantic and a perfect fit for the organization. We are lucky to have her."

Annie MacRae graduated from Amherst College with a double major in English and Theater and began her career as a literary assistant at Bret Adams Ltd. She joined the Literary Department at Manhattan Theatre Club in 2004, first as a Literary Intern, then as the Play Development Assistant, the Play Development Associate and most recently the Literary Manager and Sloan Project Manager.

Since 2008, she ran MTC's Ernst C. Stiefel 7@7 Reading Series and MTC's partnership with the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. She has featured work by playwrights including Annie Baker, Amy Herzog, Halley Feiffer, Joshua Harmon, Ayad Akhtar, Rachel Bonds, Penelope Skinner, Matthew Lopez, Steven Levenson, Molly Smith Metzler, D.C. Jackson, Rona Munro, Adam Bock and Ethan Lipton in MTC's reading series.

Through the Sloan Foundation, she has commissioned a range of American, British, Australian and Irish writers, including Lucy Kirkwood, Simon Stephens, Nick Payne, Lisa D'Amour, Heidi Schreck, Nick Jones, Greg Pierce, Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, Tom Holloway, Michael West, Madeleine George and Samuel Hunter. She has championed many plays and playwrights whose work has landed on MTC's stages including Nell Benjamin's Explorers Club, Julia Jordan's and Juliana Nash's Murder Ballad, and Nick Payne's Constellations.

Annie has served as dramaturg for three summers at the O'Neill Playwrights Conference and recently as a Jerome Fellowship panelist. She was the Chair of the Board of Space on Ryder Farm, a non-profit artists' retreat and recently spearheaded its advisory board. She serves on the Lives of Brearley Alumnae Committee and the Amherst College Executive Committee of the Alumni Council.

Atlantic Theater Company's acclaimed world premiere new musical FOUND, directed by Lee Overtree, featuring a book by Tony Award nominee Hunter Bell ([title of show]) and Lee Overtree, music and original lyrics by Eli Bolin is now playing a limited engagement through Sunday, November 9 at Atlantic Theater Company at the Linda Gross Theater (336 West 20th Street).
