In his latest Broadway hit, SCHOOL OF ROCK, students from well-off families learn the value of expressing themselves through art. Now legendary composer Andrew Lloyd Webber, who has always been a major benefactor of arts education, is funding an initiative to support theatre education opportunities for underserved young people and under-resourced public schools throughout the United States.

With a $1.3 million three-year grant from the Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation, the American Theatre Wing is funding the Andrew Lloyd Webber Initiative.

The program will be an expansion of the work the foundation has done to fund arts education in the United Kingdom.

The initiative will be comprised of three separate components. A grant-giving program will provide funding to public schools for the purchase of musical instruments, dance floors, lighting grids and anything else needed to create new theatre programs or improve existing ones.

Extracurricular training scholarships will cover the costs of sending select students to summer study and after school training programs.

Four-year partial university scholarships will help select students pursue theatre studies at the university level.

When available, information on how and when to apply will be posted at americantheatrewing.org.
