For the past decade Astoria (Queens) became a pilgrimage spot for musical saw players from all over the world. The festival is in the Guinness Book of Records for the 'Largest Musical Saw Ensemble' (53 musical saw players playing together). Videos from past years' festivals can be viewed on the festival's website.

The festival's goal is to preserve & advance the art of saw playing by showcasing playing techniques & saws, educating composers, bringing the saw to public awareness, getting recognition for the saw as a legitimate music instrument, inspiring learning to play it, educating people of its history, showing the diversity of the saw & of the people who play it, its multi-cultural origin, using it as a bridge between cultures through their united history of playing music on a saw.
