VIDEO: The Abbey Theatre Celebrates 110th Anniversary
The Abbey Theatre, the National Theatre of Ireland is celebrating their 110th anniversary today, Dec. 27. Below, watch a tribute to The Abbey Theatre with an excerpt from Juno and the Paycock by Sean O'Casey.
The Abbey Theatre was founded as Ireland's national theatre, by W.B. Yeats and Lady Gregory in 1904 "to bring upon the stage the deeper emotions of Ireland". Although written more than a hundred years ago, this is still the kernel of what constitutes the artistic imperative for the Abbey Theatre today.

Running at around 50 minutes, it’s snappy and positively Gen-Z in pace and subject. Fernandes crafts a script that wanders from deliciously colloquial to slightly expository, but remains solid throughout.
