The Union Theatre and Theatre503 picked up the main awards for musicals at the OffWestEnd.com award ceremony today.

Porn: The Musical won Best New Musical for its run at Theatre503 following a successful stint at Edinburgh 2009, and the Union Theatre's production of Assassins won Best Production and Best Sound Design while its production of Bells Are Ringing, starring Anna-Jane Casey, won Best Choreographer for the work of Alistair David.

The OFFIES were launched in January 2010 by campaigning website OffWestEnd.com to reward and honour excellence and to help raise the profile and status of independent theatres in London. At the end of this month, independent theatres located - above a pub, under a railway bridge, in a converted warehouse or under a proscenium arch - will celebrate their achievements with the under-paid and over-talented artists, production crews and producing teams who inhabit and reinvent these spaces daily.
