Robert Pattinson to Join Ben Whishaw in Freddy Mercury Biopic?

According to the Daily Mail, rumors are circulating that the producers of the upcoming Freddy Mercury biopic are eyeing Robert Pattinson to play Queen guitarist May.

These are very early rumors, especially with no confirmed casting for frontman Mercury. Ben Whishaw, the surviving members of the band Queen's current favorite for the role, is screen-testing today. He will, of course, have to sing as part of the audition. Whishaw is perhaps best known as 'gadget guru Q' from the latest James Bond flick Skyfall.

Originally, funnyman Sacha Baron Cohen had been cast in the role however he left the film due to "creative differences."

The film will be penned by 'Frost/Nixon/ playwright and screenwriter Peter Morgan who was nominated for a Drama Desk in 2007. He also received Academy Award noms for He his screenplays of "Frost/Nixon" and "The Queen."

Pattinson, well known for his portrayal of Edward Cullen in the Twilight saga, has several projects in the works, including The Rover, Maps to the Stars, The Lost City of Z, Mission: Blacklist, Queen of the Desert and Hold on to Me. Other recent film credits include Cosmopolis, Bel Ami and Water for Elephants.
