New Executive Director Sam Gough Appointed At Tron Theatre

Tron Theatre Company has announced that Sam Gough will take up the position of Executive Director following the recent departure of Lesley Renton from the role. Sam will join the company in early September 2018 from his current position as General Manager and Head of Operations at Summerhall.

He joins the Tron at an exciting juncture in the venue's history - Artistic Director Andy Arnold has celebrated his 10th anniversary at the helm with a slew of critically acclaimed new work including the recent Ma, Pa and the Little Mouths, and a substantial programme of capital investment work that will see the venue's outward-facing and backstage facilities improved and upgraded in what is its 35th year as a producing and receiving theatre.

Shereen Nanjiani, Chair of the Board of Tron Theatre Company said, 'We are delighted to welcome Sam Gough as our new Executive Director. Sam has an impressive track record managing venues and leading organisations at a senior level. The experience he brings will make for a strong partnership with our Artistic Director and Chief Executive Andy Arnold, ensuring The Tron continues to develop as one of Scotland's leading theatres.'

Sam has been at Summerhall for six years, where he's been credited with leading the team that has maintained the building, enhancing its growing reputation, and stabilizing the running of the entire operation.

Robert McDowell, Summerhall's owner and founder commented, 'We wish Sam every luck, obviously sad to see him go, but excited that he will be taking all he has learnt from Summerhall to the Tron. He has assured us that he will keeping an eye on us from the west and of course he will always be welcome back!'

The Tron Theatre Company is currently under the artistic leadership of Andy Arnold, who took up the position of Artistic Director and Chief Executive in 2008. The Tron Theatre presents the people of Glasgow and the West of Scotland with outstanding professional productions of the finest new writing, with an emphasis on world, UK and Scottish premieres; as well as staging co-productions and collaborations with other theatre companies and supporting the work of new and emergent artists.

Summerhall is Edinburgh's independent arts venue.? Now heading into its seventh year, Summerhall occupies the former Edinburgh Uni Royal Dick Veterinary College on the south side of the city. It is well known for its award-winning and critically acclaimed Edinburgh Festival programmes, presenting work that challenges and entertains from the likes of Ontroerend Goed, Sh!t Theatre and Paines Plough, a free, world-class visual arts programme and the live music series Nothing Ever Happens Here....This is all combined with housing over a hundred artists and creative businesses, the renowned Richard Demarco archive, a brewery and a gin distillery plus hosting festivals and events year-round.
