A charity gala celebrating community, dance, and philanthropy has raised a grand total of £5,737.50 for Minds Up, an educational program operated by South East London Mind. The exclusive "EmpowerHER 2026" benefit gala, held at the Oakley House in Bromley, was orchestrated by choreographer and lead organiser Vicky Longley.
The evening began with a centerpiece dance production choreographed by Longley, featuring a powerhouse performance by 21 local dancers. Vocalists Melissa Lowels, Leanne Kyte, Rae Simmonds, and Rosanna Colclough provided the musical backing for the routines. Following the showcase, guests attended a three-course dinner, adhering to the event's strict black-and-white monochrome dress code. The night concluded with a live DJ opening up the dance floor to attendees.
Elisha, a representative from South East London Mind, attended the event to highlight the organization's regional impact, specifically through its Minds Up program.
Minds Up is an educational initiative that works directly within schools to educate children and young adults about mental health, with the ultimate goal of reducing suicide. The charity was founded by two fathers who lost their children to suicide, and today it focuses on preventative education for young people.
Reflecting on the growth of the dance collective over the last three years, Longley emphasized the community aspect of the project.
"It quickly became a vital pillar in the middle of our week and a non-negotiable anchor for so many of us," Longley said. "It is so much more than a dance class; it has become a true community and an incredible space for collective healing. To hold space for these women, help build their confidence, teach technique, and watch them flourish is a magical experience."
Longley also acknowledged the logistical effort required to manage the lighting, sound, dinner service, and entertainment alongside the 21 performers, calling the evening a tremendous success and noting that organizers are already looking ahead to 2027.
While the 2026 gala has concluded, South East London Mind continues to accept donations to fund the Minds Up program in local schools.
