Theodore Bickel Returns to Theater J to Present LAUGHTER THROUGH TEARS Starting 12/17

Theodore Bikel will be returning to Theater J to unveil a new show about the pioneering 19th-century author Sholom Aleichem, titled LAUGHTER THROUGH TEARS. The production will be a world premiere presentation with direction by Derek Goldman, musical direction by Tamara Brooks and with Merima Ključo on accordion.

LAUGHTER THROUGH TEARS will run from December 17th, 2008 through January 11, 2009 at Theater J in Washington, DC.

In the past two seasons, Theodore Bikel (the originAl Baron Von Trapp in The Sound of Music and Broadway’s mostrecognizable Tevye from Fiddler on the Roof) has starred in Theater J’s The Disputation and Shylock, which sold out 28 of 31 performances.

In addition to LAUGHTER THROUGH TEARS, Bikel will perform a special New Year’s Eve concert in celebration  of both the diversity and commonality of culture. The quartet Serendipity 4, with Theodore Bikel, Tamara Brooks, Merima Ključo and Shura Lipovsky will perform music from around the world highlighting Sephardic, Yiddish, Bosnian, Hebrew, and Greek musical traditions. The concert will take place at 10:00 pm on December 31, 2008 followed by a New Year’s Eve celebration.
